If your community group needs some assistance assessing the needs and assets of your community as part of a community development project. I would be pleased to help.
During my time as a volunteer prior to my paid employment in community development, I conducted social needs assessments of Christchurch suburbs Linwood, Sumner and Redcliffs, and Lyttelton. Out of these pieces of research sprang some awesome community projects - for example, in Sumner and Redcliffs, the organisation Sumner Bays Union Trust began to serve the local community, spearheading such projects as Sumner Community Gardens and the now independent Redcliffs Community Shed.
In Linwood, the Anglican Parish of Linwood-St Chad's continues to run a range of community development initiatives - I can't take credit for starting these initiatives; however, the social needs assessment I conducted at the time informed the parish's initiatives.
In Lyttelton, Lyttelton Community House continues to operate, serving the needs of its community.
With a Master of Arts in geography and a passion for empowering local communities to meet their own needs and recognise their own resources, I would be delighted to support community groups to get to the heart of the needs of their local community.
