  • Help you choose a relevant accounting software package - Xero and MYOB are the most commonly used accounting software platforms in New Zealand. Each of these has pros and cons. I have used both and I have also used Reckon Accounts Hosted (the name Quickbooks goes by in New Zealand and Australia these days) and Cashmanager. 
  • Set up the Chart of Accounts and input the essential details for your business or organisation into the software. 
  • Start reconciling your bank statements in the new accounting software. 
  • Teach you the ins and outs of using the software and recommend training you could do if you intend on doing the bookkeeping yourself.  
  • If you need me to do the day to day bookkeeping and/or payroll I can assist you with this. 

When I arrived at my last job, all accounting and payroll was done in accounting ledgers and wage books. I spent much of the first six months transferring all of this data into spreadsheets before the organisation could afford to pay for specific accounting software and then transitioned across to this. I spent many hours working on this just so I could get it to the basic standard for accounting in New Zealand.
